In the US, 1-in-3 women will experience violence at the hands of an intimate partner. Women represent 10% of the incarcerated population, and their numbers are rising faster than men's.

In Florida, more than half of the population are women. Our focus is on Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade Counties, which together represent 26% of Florida's population (6.2 million residents).

In the State of Florida, African American, American Indian, Alaskan Native and Hispanic women report higher rates of domestic violence. The spousal homicide rate among African Americans is significantly higher than for white people. Additionally, the incidence of homicide between partners is higher in interracial marriages compared with intraracial marriages. Domestic violence offenses result in approximately 200 deaths each year, accounting for approximately 20% of murders annually for the state.

The Need

Despite the scale of the need, resources remain limited. Florida has 61 domestic violence organizations with only 17 offering family transitional housing. There are 14 women's prisons, nearly matching the number of facilities offering family transitional housing.

One of the greatest barriers is funding a mission that serves those forgotten or overlooked. These survivors carry visible and invisible scars that society would rather ignore.

Our Response

Our programs offer a holistic, survivor-centered approach. Family Transitional Housing provides safe housing for survivors and their children. Educational Outreach works to remove shame and reshape societal understanding of these survivors. Life Skills Training equips survivors with practical, everyday tools. These initiatives are designed not only to help survivors survive, but to thrive—economically, emotionally, and socially.
